These are generally regarded to be in the 0.0001-micron range, four orders of magnitude smaller than the finest of the normal – flow particle filter.

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a membrane technology with myriad applications, but most well-known for its use in desalination for drinking water production. Reverse osmosis water treatment allows passage for only small and weakly charged molecules, such as water. Undissociated acids, such as carbonic acid (H2CO3), can also easily pass through. Carbonic acid is part of the carbonate system and not a contaminant—it affects the pH of the product water. Sodium and chlorine, which only carry a single charge and are also small, can pass through the membrane but not quite as easily as water. Molecules that are larger and/or more strongly charged than sodium and chlorine are rejected altogether.

Shallow Hand Pump Iron Removal Plant is specially designed for the hand pump to remove chemical contamination, turbidity, foreign particles from feed water. This plant is ideal for commercial, industrial and residential sectors.

  • Iron Removal plant for hand pump is mild steel fabricated rugged filter vessel filled with Iron removal resin. The inner wall of the IRP is given anti corrosive rubber paint. It is fitted with a 3 way valve and has inlet and outlet connection as in the photograph.
  • Water from the hand pump is passed though the inlet of the IRP. The water passes through a bed of Iron removal resin where Iron content is removed and Iron free water flows out, through the outlet. After a period of time the resin gets saturated and has to be regenerated. This regeneration process is done by just backwashing and without addition of any chemicals.
  • The three way valve is changed from filter position to backwash position. Now the hand pump is pumped and the water flows in to the IRP but in the opposite direction. Now all the accumulated Iron in the media will get washed off and will pass to the drainage. Once the water coming out of the IRP is clean then it is understood that all the iron content is removed. Now the resin is ready for the next operation. Turn the 3 way valve to filter position and continue to get iron free water.
  • The interval between the backwashing will be dependant on the iron content in water. It is generally recommended to backwash once everyday for about 5-10 minutes.
  • This IRP can be installed near the existing hand pump on the hand pump platform and can be connected with existing hand pumps using GI pipes an fittings.

Industrial Water Softener PlantA hard water softener is an appliance that uses sodium chloride, also known as salt, to treat hard water. Hard water contains an excess of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, manganese, and iron that can be an expensive nuisance for a home. These minerals are taken up in the underground water supply and, as the water is heated in the home, they crystallize and stick to household surfaces. Sodium chloride, the effective component of water softener, works to replace these unwanted minerals.

A water softener is a fairly simple appliance that is stocked with salt. In water softening process the water supply passes through the water softener over resin beds, rows of resin beads perform an ion-exchange. The resin beads chemically attract the unwanted ‘hard’ mineral ions and exchange them with sodium ions. Softener resin is mainly strong acid Cation resin.

When the resin beds become saturated with the minerals, the water softener flushes them out with a salt solution called brine and the process begins again. Water softeners are fairly easy to operate and maintain. All that needs to be done after installation is to periodically add sodium chloride and the water softener does the rest.

Sodium salts are not hard scales forming so that water without the calcium and magnesium salts is called soft water.

Water softening is an important process, because the hardness of water in households and companies is reduced during this process. When water is hard, it can clog pipes and soap will dissolve in it less easily. Water softening can prevent these negative effects. Hard water causes a higher risk of lime scale deposits in household water systems. Due to this lime scale build-up, pipes are blocked and the efficiency of hot boilers and tanks is reduced. This increases the cost of domestic water heating by about fifteen to twenty percent. Another negative effect of lime scale is that it has damaging effects on household machinery, such as laundry machines. Water softening means expanding the life span of household machine, such as laundry machines. Softeners are sometimes even applied to remove iron. The softening devices are able to remove up to five milligrams per litre (5 mg/L) of dissolved iron.
Softeners can operate automatic, semi-automatic, or manual. Each type is rated on the amount of hardness it can remove before regeneration is necessary.

A water softener collects hardness minerals within its conditioning tank and from time to time flushes them away to drain. Ion exchangers are often used for water softening. When an ion exchange is applied for water softening, it will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with other ions, for instance sodium or potassium. The exchanger ions are added to the ion exchanger reservoir as sodium and potassium salts (NaCl and KCl).
